Openings

Established under strong support from the government and MIT, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) plans to do for Singapore what MIT and Stanford have done for Massachusetts and Silicon Valley, as well as for the US and the world – it will become an intellectual hub and an engine of growth for Singapore and the world. Headed by Prof. Thomas Magnanti, the former Dean of the School of Engineering at MIT, SUTD is involving more and more famous experts for top-tier research.

PhD opening at SUTD (2025 Jan intake)
As a pioneering expert in the inter-disciplinary research combining artificial intelligence networks, information engineering, machine learning and economics theory, I am leading the Network Economics and Optimization Lab (NEOL) at SUTD. I am now looking for self-motivated Ph.D. students who have strong math background and are passionate about network economics, algorithmic game theory, artificial intelligence, computer networking, and multi-agent machine learning. Please click SUTD-PhD for more information, where the SUTD Graduate Fellowship applies to all international applicants and includes a monthly stipend without any tuition fee. Please email Prof. Duan your CV (including overall GPA).  PhD students have rich opportunities for working with top universities’ professors and conference travels. The application deadline is end of September 2024, and we only require TOEFL or IELTS to apply.
SUTD-MIT Joint Postdoc Research Fellows

SUTD has a two-year joint postdoc with MIT (1st year at MIT and 2nd year at SUTD supervised by an MIT professor and Prof. Lingjie Duan simultaneously). This program applies to many research directions (e.g., communications and networking, multi-agent learning and operations research). Please email Prof. Duan (lingjie_duan@sutd.edu.sg) your CV (including a complete list of publications and the contact information of three referees), and research statement (how your research expertise fits into and expands my research area). Very strong applicants will be connected to MIT professors in relevant directions.

Postdoc Research Fellows at SUTD from 2023 (commencement time is flexible)

In Engineering Systems and Design Pillar at SUTD, Prof. Lingjie Duan is looking for self-motivated and energetic researchers who are interested in theoretical research of communications and networking, especially network optimization and machine learning analysis. The candidates should have

  • A recent PhD degree in communications and networking, computer sciences, operations research, or applied mathematics
  • Strong publication record in top-tier IEEE/ACM/OR/Math conferences/journals
  • Proficient in oral and written English

The postdoc research staff has a lot of opportunities to work closely with other faculty members at SUTD and MIT professors. Please email Prof. Duan (lingjie_duan@sutd.edu.sg) your CV (including a complete list of publications and the contact information of three referees), and research statement (how your research expertise fits into and expands my research area). The remuneration package is highly attractive in a global point of view, driven by individual qualifications.

Visiting Scholars and Visiting PhD Students

I am always looking for self-motivated visiting scholars and PhD students who are passionate about theoretical research of communications/computing and networking. Candidates should have a strong background with good knowledge of nonlinear optimization or game theory. Please email Prof. Duan (lingjie_duan@sutd.edu.sg) your CV (including a complete list of publications and the contact information of at least one referee) and research statement (how your research expertise fits into or possibly expands my research area). Excellent applicants’ expenses at SUTD can be covered. Currently, there is no opening for undergraduate students.
