James’s paper on 3D paper-based analytical device (3D-PAD) is published. We developed a method to apply fused-deposition modeling 3D printing to integrate 3D features with cellulose-based paper-based fluidic platform. As a demonstration, we have shown such a device can enhance the containment of organic solvents in the paper, which would be difficult in paper-based devices fabricated via solid wax printing.
