I study rare events and the presence of heavy-tailed data in various economic, physical and social contexts using tools from applied probability, statistical learning and optimization. This work has lead to analyzing various phenomenon related to financial and insurance risk management, social networks, congestion and queueing, robust optimization, machine learning, federated/distributed learning,etc.
